Join Upward Bound

Nationally, Upward Bound students are 3x more likely to earn a bachelor's degree.

To join the TRIO Upward Bound Program, students must:

Be a US citizen or permanent resident.
Attend Central, Hillcrest, or Parkview High School within the Springfield Public Schools district.
Be in the 9th, 10th, or 11th grade.
Demonstrate a desire and the ability to succeed in high school and to pursue / graduate with a post-secondary degree or certification.

Also, students should meet at least one of the following:

Meet income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Education.
Be a potential first-generation college student (neither parent/guardian the student lives with has a four-year college degree).
Show Academic Need (GPA or Standardized test scores)

A limited number of students can be served in the program, so apply today!

Official recruit session occurs during the fall semester within target schools.

Submit your completed application to:

- All services are FREE!
- Develop skills and motivation needed to finish high school
- Receive academic support, including academic,
  career, and college advising, tutoring, and college
  preparation
- Explore college majors and find which may be right
  fit
- Receive ACT/ standardized test prep
- Guidance on admission applications, financial aid, and scholarships
- Receive stipends —free money— based on
  attendance in Upward Bound activities and grades
- Take trips. Students travel to college campuses and
  cultural sites both in and out of state
- Attend weekly meetings held during the school day at the partnered high schools
- Attended scheduled individualized advising sessions with Upward Bound Staff held during the school day at the partner high schools
- Attend specified 1/2 day Saturday Sessions on the MSU campus. (Average 2 per semester)
- Attend tutoring sessions if the student is struggling with classes
- Participate in a six-week, on-campus, mock college summer academy one time during their participation in the program
- Cultural events and activities
- Multiple college tours throughout the year
- Opportunities for career exploration
- Mentor program with college students
- Service learning projects
